David Lowe MA (Cantab) FRSA - Principal

David Lowe read English at Gonville & Caius College Cambridge, where he was a Choral Exhibitioner, and at the Mozarteum Music Academy in Salzburg, Austria, where he studied solo singing.

Following a career in independent schools, as teacher, head of department, and deputy head, David was appointed Principal of Cambridge Tutors College in 1997. Over a period of eleven years CTC achieved growing success and recognition in the sector. David moved to DLD as Principal in 2008 and was promoted to the joint Principalship of both DLD and Abbey College London in 2011.

David is married with five children. He is a team inspector for the Independent Schools Inspectorate, and has been a trustee of UKCISA and board member of the British Council's Education UK Partnership.

Lee Roberts BA PGCE MEd FCMI -  Academic Principal

Lee joined Abbey College in 2004 as a full-time teacher and has taught Economics, Business Studies and Accounting at A level. He has examined A level Economics and Business studies for a number of Awarding Bodies.

He completed an undergraduate degree at the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff in Business Management followed by a graduate diploma in the European Policy Process at Cardiff University.  He later completed a PGCE at the Institute of Education, London and has recently completed a Master of Education degree.Lee is currently studying for a second degree in Psychology. Lee is a fellow of the Chartered Management Institute and has a particular interest in Psychometrics.

Before deciding to build a career in education Lee was a financial auditor in London.

Robert Whitehouse  MBA - Director of International Admissions

Robert studied at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London and went on to teach English for over twenty years, both in the UK and overseas, with four years in East Asia and others in Europe and the Middle-East. Between 2000 and 2005 he ran a foundation programme for international students going on to study at universities throughout the UK. He has recently worked as a cultural consultant to the managing director of Samsung Europe and joined Abbey in the spring of 2008.

Jonathan Pratt BA - Director of Teaching and Learning & Head of Department (English)

John has over ten years of specialist teaching experience in the area of second language acquisition. He has taught on government programmes in addition to working freelance and within English language colleges. John is interested in the application of ESL techniques to the teaching of other subjects in order to enhance the experience of international students.

Elizabeth Sweeney: BA MA PGCE Senior Tutor (Girls) & EFL Teacher

Elizabeth has taught English as a Foreign Language (EFL) for seventeen years in the UK and overseas. She fulfilled a range of positions including head of department and Boarding House Mistress during that time. She joined Abbey College in 2010. Elizabeth oversees the academic development and pastoral care of the girls including the provision of UCAS advice and guidance.

Kevin Rayfield BSc PGCE: Senior Tutor (Boys) & Physics Teacher

Kevin has been teaching physics for over twenty years and has experience of a range of schools. He joined Abbey College in 2004. Kevin oversees the academic development and pastoral care of the boys including the provision of UCAS advice and guidance.
