Guy Goldwater

DLD student

AS Levels London

You may not have considered it as an option but Government & Politics is a brilliant choice of subject to study for A-Level at DLD. Daniel explains the importance of all the key political stories in the news, and provides great teaching notes which helped us learn the syllabus. Although there is quite a lot of reading to do, the course is well structured and we were well prepared for the exams.

Government and Politics

What is Government & Politics?

Government and Politics explores the UK political system, democracy and how politics influences society. The covers 'People and Politics', 'Governing the UK', 'Key themes in Political Analysis' and 'Extended themes in Political analysis'.

The subject is taught using group discussions and essay writing workshops and presentations. Students will learn how to write structured essays and how to evaluate political theories.

The College offers the Edexcel examination board's government and politics specification. For full details visit www.edexcel.com

Good subject combinations

A-level Government and Politics is a good choice for students considering a career in the professions, or those who simply want to understand how the world works. Politics goes well with students who are also studying A-level Economics. Politics does not just appeal to social science students, however and students focusing on sciences are encouraged to choose Government and Politics to give them a broader perspective on the world.

After Abbey

To date Abbey students who have studied politics have gone on to study economics at university.
