What is Economics?
Economics is the study of how resources are allocated and how economic theories have an enormous impact on society. For example, the recent rise in commodity prices has led to concerns about serious social unrest. In addition to these macroeconomic issues, the subject considers simple decisions by firms such as whether or not to raise their prices.
The subject is highly respected by universities as it offers students the opportunity to improve their analytical and evaluative skills and helps them develop an ability to work with Mathematics and to show excellent written analysis.
The College offers the OCR examination board's economics specification. For full details visit www.ocr.org.uk
Good subject combinations
If you think that you might want to continue to study Economics at university, you must study Mathematics at A level and if you are aiming for a top university we advise you to study Further Mathematics as well.
Economics can complement any subject at A level. It works well with Government and Politics and can add breadth to a science focused programme.
