What is Accounting?
Accounting teaches the knowledge and skills required to employ techniques of financial and management accounting to assess, measure and report on an organisation's performance.
The College offers the AQA examination board's accounting specification. For full details visit www.aqa.org.uk
Good subject combinations
Accounting provides an excellent combination with Business Studies, Economics and Mathematics for students who have a very clear idea of going on to study business studies or accounting and finance at university. Alternatively, the subject can provide a 'fifth AS subject' option for students with an interest in the subject area. Some of the top UK universities prefer students applying for degree subjects such as economics not to take accounting as an A-level but this is where doing so would mean that the subject is one of a student's 'core' subjects within a three A-level plus one AS-level programme.
After Abbey
The majority of Abbey students who have studied this subject have done so with the subject being their fifth AS-level or fourth A-level subject. They have often gone on to study business management or accounting and finance degree courses at university where they have had a head start over their fellow undergraduates who have not studied the subject prior to attending university.
