Meeting The Challenge

08/01/2010

The College's mathematicians have continued to meet the enjoyable challenge posed by the United Kingdom Mathematics Trust (UKMT) Senor Mathematical Challenge. Our strongest mathematicians were amongst the 91,962 entrants from across the UK who took part in the November 2009 competition and achieved a haul of six gold, eleven silver and seven bronze medals with China's Sun Chikai securing passage through to the British Mathematical Olympiad Round 1.

Sun Chikai commented "I hope to study mathematics at a top UK university such as UCL or Imperial College and taking part in the Challenge and the Olympiad is enjoyable and adds to my preparation for going on to one of the world's top universities."

College Principal Mark Love (pictured with some of the medal winners) was full of praise for both students and staff and said "We are fortunate to have gifted mathematicians amongst the staff and student body and whether those students are aiming for mathematics, engineering or economics at university, their education by our mathematics department teachers will stand them in good stead for university and beyond."
