Abbey College Student Destinations - University Preparation
The hallmark of the vast majority of our students is that they are aiming to enter professional occupations after graduation from university. Maintaining continuity with its original purpose, the College continues to successfully prepare students for entry to medicine and dentistry.
In recent years the College has enrolled an increasing number of students aiming for pharmacy, optometry and psychology. Aspiring engineers – whether civil, mechanical or electrical – make up an increasing number of our students and they regularly receive offers from the top ten universities for engineering in the UK.
The social sciences have seen rapid growth at the College and have effectively complemented the established science and mathematics provision for which the College has long been renowned. As the College has firmly established an equally strong reputation for social sciences, so our potential lawyers and accountants have grown in number and have gone on to study at the top universities for their chosen subject.
Apart from the professions, we have increasingly enrolled students who are aiming for managerial positions in blue chip companies, frequently in banking and finance. In order to achieve such ambitions these students go on to study subjects such as mathematics, economics and management science at universities including the London School of Economics, Imperial College, UCL, Nottingham and Warwick.
Our success in assisting students to enter these highly competitive degree courses at the UK 's very best universities is founded on the very high quality of the teaching we provide that is in turn supported by our effective pastoral system. The latter includes a highly personalised approach to each student's application to university with close attention paid to the production of the required UCAS Personal Statement. In addition, specific support is given to students to enable them to reveal their potential in a university entrance interview situation.
